Small Steps to Scanning: Learning to choose with switches

In this webinar, we’ll explore the skills required to use switch scanning with one or two switches to make choices. We’ll look at three different methods of choosing with switches.
These include:

  • ‘This or That’ choosing with two switches where the student learns to differentiate between the actions of two switches.
  • ‘Flashcard’ choosing with one or two switches where the student learns the concept of MOVE and CHOOSE.
  • Formal one or two switch scanning where the student uses their switch(es) to control the scanning of available choices.

Ian will exemplify each of these methods, breaking down the task into the small steps of the SENict Switch Skills Development Level Descriptors.

This webinar is best for those who are using switches in their class and want to better understand the progression from cause and effect towards independent choosing. The session is accompanied by a comprehensive handout including level descriptors and teaching models and will be recorded and available to watch on this website for at least 12 months after the event.
